Thanksgiving Coding for Juniors – Using Scratch Jr, notes, answer key, 8 pgs

I have made this Thanksgiving themed resource to help begin meet the needs of our 21st Century learners. The skills they will need will involve a capability of working in a digital environment. This activity focusses on coding. However it can equally be seen as a sequencing activity, a problem solving activity or a positional maths activity. This is an introductory activity to using coding. It doesn’t require the use of a device or access to the internet. Though you may like to show students the actual Scratch Jr app as well. The success of these tasks is best achieved with plenty of prior discussion and modelling. The challenge with these activities is working with anticlockwise and clockwise turns This resource comes with; Four worksheets of simple coding. The four increase in challenge. Answers for each worksheet

Multiples - Mystery Picture Worksheets

(0)
This resource is a fun, engaging approach to working with multiples. Nothing says engagement like a mystery to solve! No doubt even older students will want to complete these sheets if they get hold of them. All students need to do is locate and colour in the multiples of the number indicated on each sheet. This resource contains 10 mystery pictures to uncover – one for each numeral 1 to 10. Each numeral sheet has a clue to the picture that will be revealed. Note: the number ‘0’ is also a multiple of each of the numbers 1-10. Designed for Grades 3 through 6. This is great as a supporting resource to multiplication facts, a math center activity (laminate and make reusable!), homework, an early finisher activity and many more uses. There are two options for printing – 1. One whole sheet per numeral, and 2. Two numerals per sheet to save on photocopying. This resource includes; Teacher notes 10 sheets, one for each numeral 1-10 5 sheets, two numerals per sheet Answer sheet

Pi Day Agamograph Art Activity

Agamographs provide a fun unique way of viewing art. My students are fascinated and get so excited with this art idea. This resource is a fun hands-on Pi Day themed activity that combines two separate images into one are piece, which the viewer can then see – from different angles - each picture independently. This activity involves coloring-in, cutting, gluing and folding. You will require; coloring-in materials (pencils, felts, etc), scissors, glue-sticks. This resource has 4 Pi Day themed images ( Pi, 3.14, a piece of pie, π ), to put together and create the agamograph. This resource has all the combination pairs (6). There are two levels of challenge; the final image is composed of 8 strips (4 strips for one Pi Day image and 4 strips for the other), suitable for younger students the final image is composed of 16 strips (8 strips for one Pi Day image and 8 strips for the other) I have also included blank templates for students to create their own two images to combine.

100s Board Place Value Jigsaws

The 100s board provides students with the opportunity to explore learning around number properties, place value and number sequencing. This resource is great for independent learning, math centers or take a worksheet home for homework. Two blank boards are provided for laying out jigsaw pieces. One is a blank grid. The second has the numbers 1-100 faintly visible for students who need an easier pathway to success. Worksheets can be cut and the pieces glued on to a blank 100s board or into the student’s workbook. The jigsaw pieces range in difficulty from pieces made up of columns and rows, to large regular shapes (i.e. rectangles) through to more complicated irregular shaped pieces. The preview shows all the worksheets, plus the black and white and colour versions of one of the print and cut jigsaws. This resource includes; 2 blank 100s boards – one blank grid and one grid with faint numbers A set of 11 jigsaw pieces, black and white A set of 11 jigsaw pieces, colour A set of 11 worksheets Teacher notes Each set has jigsaw pieces shapes as such; 10s columns 10s rows 5s rows 2x5 blocks Rectangle blocks of 4 numbers, 6 numbers and 9 numbers Large rectangle blocks of numbers Lots of ‘L’ shaped blocks Shapes that form a symmetrical pattern Mixed size shapes ‘Big L’ shapes Big ‘chunks’ Yeah, I did give them crazy names, but that’s what they look like to me!

Transport Theme Binary Number Puzzles

A quick, ready to go, little instruction required math activity. This resource is a fun hands-on Transport themed activity that uses the binary number system to create Transportation mini images. The images are; Set A – sailboat 1, submarine, sailboat 2, tug boat Set B – dump truck, bulldozer, golf cart, forklift Set C – gondola, car, rocket 1, scooter Set D – plane, hot air balloon, rocket 2, helicopter Students will devour these and be wanting more! By then they will have a beginning understanding of the binary number system. Binary numbers are an essential part of understanding how computing works. Understanding binary numbers is not only learning within the digital curriculum and helping students become 21st Century learners, but they are also a core element of maths knowledge and learning about different counting systems. This resource includes; Four activity sheet sets of 4 puzzles Answer sheets
